Kids Watches for the new year 2016

The last time i bought watches for my boys & girl was 3 years ago. Adidas watches, only 1 survived but with some glitch. This time around, they requested G-Shocks, but I ended up these 3.

Vintage Legendary Seiko Diver "Turtle" 6105 8110

One of the best and unique vintage Seiko diver, produced in the late 60's till 70's.
Famous as watches worn by many US veterans in the Vietnam war. They wore them because of the durability and functionality especially in the tough tropical war environment.
Gaining more popularity (hence value) after featured in the movie Apolcalypse Now, that the price now is roaming at around USD1000 range.

I acquired a piece here from a local seller, not up to my expectation but better than nothing, just to get a glimpse of this legendary japanese diver.

Overall condition is not so bad at all considering its age and usage. All except the hands and bracelet are original. Top part of the body had been lightly buffed. Bezel still clicks and rotate smoothly both directions. The crown still locks (its not screwdown but has a groove locking mechanism). Correct movement with hacking mechanism Seiko 6105B Japan. Thick domed type crystal. Movement running strong but a bit faster (from my observation +30-40 sec a day) but can be adjusted.

The hands were already replaced. So I thought I just move on and bought the aftermarket replacement for the bezel insert and the dial. How I wish they are still the original ones. If I got time, will do it myself or better still get a professional watchmaker and get it fully serviced as well.

Cerita Jalan-Jalan cari barang vintage di Serikin

Biasanya orang2 yang datang berkunjung ke Kuching, selalu nak pegi Serikin, sempadan Sarawak-Indonesia ni sebab dengar cerita barang murah sana. Last skali aku pegi sini tahun 2006, tahun ni aku dgn family pergi skali lagi. Kali ni niat dihati nak cari jam vintage ataupun parts kalau2 ada.

Depan ni satu-satunya kedai Muslim yang ada kat sini. Serikin ni kampung atau area dayak dan tak ramai muslim kawasan ni.

Ni la satu-satunya kedai jam vintage yang ada dengan pilihan yang amat terhad.

Tak ada yang menarik dimata aku... sekadar tunjuk kat anak2 barang-barang lama.

Ada perkhidmatan pack & deliver to anywhere in the world.

Aku balik dengan kecewa, tapi sempat aku sambar madu dan petai ni untuk buang balik toxin dan lenguh2 badan tadi.

Catatan 22-Oktober

 Turun dari offshore, aku singgah di KL untuk urusan seri paduka baginda. Selesai urusan, aku bergegas cari komuter pergi ke Seri Setia untuk berjumpa dgn brader Amin ni. Sembang2 sambil bertukar2 koleksi. Brader ni main Seiko diver so dapatlah aku menjamah otai2 legend diver.

Sebab dah tengahari, dan aku pun mmg tgh lapar blum breakfast, so makan tengahari dgn lauk ikan goreng je sambil dihidangkan besi2 buruk yg mahal2. Dekat 2 jam jugak sembang2 mengenai masalah ketidakstabilan politik dan ekonomi besi2 buruk ni, dan masalah2 emosi dan psikologi peminat2 jam tua di Malaysia.

Akhir perbincangan, brader anta aku balik ke stesen komuter terdekat. Aku meneruskan perjalanan ke KLIA sambil ditemani penyu pencen ni untuk di bawak balik ke Labuan untuk diberi suntikan semangat dan nafas baru....
